Vascular Ultrasound

Vascular ultrasound is ultrasound scanning of the veins and arteries of the body. As ultrasound can show body structures in real-time the function and movement of blood through these structures can be assessed very accurately.

Ultrasound imaging is very useful as it is a non-invasive, painless test that does not use any radiation and can be performed on patients of all ages.  We will use various types of ultrasound assessment during your scan to help show the anatomy and structure of the blood vessels as well as their function.

Vascular studies are performed to help monitor the blood flow to organs and tissues throughout the body. This scan also helps locate and identify narrowing and blockages in the blood vessel as well as abnormalities in the wall of the blood vessel such as plaque or thickened and calcified walls, detect blood clots and deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in the legs or arms. This examination can also determine whether a patient is a good candidate for operative procedures, and also evaluate the success of procedures that have been done to fix blocked or damaged blood vessels, also to determine if there is an enlarged artery and the source and severity of varicose veins.

The information gained from the study will assist your doctor to plan the appropriate treatment for your particular clinical problem. The friendly staff at paradise ultrasound will assist you in the preparation for the scan when you book in for the examination. Some studies will require you to fast and to cease smoking.
